2010-11 Season Rankings to be Released on Wednesday, September 29, 2010
The 2010-11 season initial rankings will be published early the morning of Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Rankings will be updated every Wednesday for the remainder of the season, into April 2011. Some rankings will not be turned live because there are few or no games from which to base a ranking on. These will remain as listings (listing all teams alphabetically) until it is determined that there are enough games entered for the majority of the teams to warrant turning the rankings live. This will include College, High School and Prep School divisions as well as Minnesota/North Dakota.
Many have asked, why doesn't MYHockey start ranking teams earlier. The fact is that prior to this date, there are simply not enough games to rank teams with any sense of accuracy. Even on this date, there will be less than a dozen games for virtually every team and rankings are less accurate. MYHockey rankings are generated 100% by games played and the scores of those games. There is no subjective input. Subjective input allows pre-season rankings whereas math-based rankings (think BCS) require a fair number of games to have passed before they are computed with any accuracy.
In preparation for the first ranking of the season you can help by making sure all games are in the system and that those scores are accurate. A couple things to consider... First, online guest entered scores must be accepted by a volunteer. If there is no registered volunteer for division(s) of the teams involved in the game, then there is no one to approve the game score and it will likely never show up on the site. Please consider volunteering or becoming a member if there is no volunteer for your team's division(s). Second, MYHockey requires that scores be corrected online using the "Fix" button (red check mark) that is to the right of every game score in the system. If a game is not valid, fill out the online form and submit. MYHockey will review and fix. Third, the deadline for updates is Tuesday at 10pm ET. Scores or corrections entered after this time are likely to be applied the following week.
