2012-13 Week #25 Rankings Released

I want to thank everyone who has made it this far into the season. For most of you outside Minnesota, the season started in August or September and for a few lucky teams will last another month.

One complaint I see this time of the season is that there is not much movement in the rankings. I will admit this is true and take a few kilobytes to explain why that happens. Early in the season, each individual game makes up maybe 10% of your overall ranking (assuming you've played 10 games at that point). Now, with 50 games under your belt, each individual game constitutes only 2% of your rating. At this point, a good weekend or a bad weekend just doesn't have the same mathematical impact as it will early in the season.

The system works this way because every eligible and entered game score is weighted equally, regardless of when it is played. Tournament games, scrimmages and league games all count the same. Early season or late in the season, each game is an equal part of a team's rating. There are some valid reasons why people do not like this approach, but there are also reasons why it makes sense. Each off-season I engage in a debate with others around improving MYHockey and this is almost always a topic of discussion, but to this point in time, the simplicity and straight forward nature of the current system reigns. I hope that answers the question a few of you have been sitting on.

Enjoy this weeks update...
